‘Waiting For Anya’ is based upon the book of the same title written by revered author, Michael Morpurgo. Michael is well known for ‘War Horse’ which has been successfully transformed for stage and screen in recent years.
The film is set during Second World War and follows young shepherd boy (Schnapp) involved in smuggling Jewish children across the border into Spain. Toby Torlesse adapted the script from Morpurgo’s novel, which was first published in 1990.
Michael gave the film the following endorsement;
“Whilst you are writing your story, it becomes precious to you. When someone creates a play or a film from your story, what you care about most is that it means as much to them, that catch the spirit of it, that they grow the story with integrity and love and skill, and do it their own way, in their own voice.
I have no doubt that the team making the film of Waiting for Anya will do all that and more. I am so pleased they will be making it in Lescun, in the very village and mountains where the story happened, both in reality, and in my mind’s eye. I wish them all, actors, crew, writers and producers and director, all the success they deserve.”
The film starts principal photography in March this year on location in Lescun in France for five weeks.
Final delivery of the film to distributors is slated for December 2018 ahead of a Premiere at the Berlin Film festival in 2019.
Sales company, 13 Films of Beverley Hills in California are selling the film worldwide and based upon the stellar cast and market interest thus far are extremely confident of the success of this film – already securing a number of pre-sales at EFM!
